Equipment used during tattooing services, including but not limited to needles and tubes
Tattoo license
Good for one year, becomes inactive on last day of the month one year from the date of
issuance.
Sharps container
Puncture resistant, leak proof container that can be closed for handling, storage,
transportation, and disposal. Must be labeled with the Biohazard symbol.
How long can you tattoo with a temporary license?
No more than 30 consecutive days.
How often can you renew a temporary license?
Up to two times in a 12 month period from date of initial application. Can be done
consecutively.
How long in advance do you need to submit a request to renew a license before
tattooing services are provided?
20 days unless otherwise approved by office.
How much notice is required before services are performed when changing work
location?
At least 24 hours.
When do you need to renew your tattoo license?
PRIOR to license entering inactive status.
How long can your license be inactive for?
Up to 3 years
How do you renew your license if it has expired?
You don't. You reapply and meet initial requirements for licensure.
How many hours of continuing education do you need per year?
10 hours
What kind of education do you need to be considered "continuing education"
5 hours by participation or attendance at a course provided by approved facilities, 5

What topics can you study for continuing education?
Laws and rules regulating licensed artists, safety and sterilization, color theory, design,
art and placement, client services, and business operations
What is not eligible for continuing education credits?
, CPR training, First Aid, and Blood borne pathogens because these are conditions of the
license.
How many hours of continuing education hours can be carried to the next
renewal cycle?
8 hours
Where must inks, dyes, or pigments come from?
Commercial supplier or manufacturer
What must inks, dyes, or pigments have on their container?
Expiration date, use of expired products is prohibited
When should the skin be cleansed?
Thoroughly prior to beginning a procedure
When can tattooing services be performed on a person younger than 18 years
old?
When authorized or prescribed by a physicians statement
Can you tattoo a person who shows signs of being inebriated or incapacitated by
drugs or alcohol?
Tattooing is prohibited in this case.
Can you tattoo a person with a sunburn or other skin diseases/disorders such as
open lesions, rashes, wounds, or puncture marks in area of treatment?
Tattooing is prohibited in this case.
Can you tattoo a person under 18 years old if their parent consents?
Tattooing is prohibited in this case in Oregon.
Does the sink in the restroom count for unrestricted access to a sink with hot and
cold running water on facility premises?
No, the sink must be separate from the restroom.
Can you dispose of waste related to a service in the lobby or waiting area?
No, service related waste must be disposed of in the service related area.
What is the minimum number of gloves to be used during a procedure?
10 gloves which equals 5 pairs
What must be done for each of the following as well as in between?
-Set-up of instruments and skin prep
-During the procedure
-During post procedure tear down
-During cleaning/ disinfection of the procedure area
-During sterilization process
A new pair of gloves must be put on, and hands must be sanitized in between
When MUST you wash your hands surrounding a service?
Before and after a procedure, when leaving the work area, when coming in contact with
blood or potentially infectious materials, and when hands are visibly soiled
Can you wash your hands with a bar of soap?
This is prohibited.
Can you use the same needle for multiple clients if you sanitize them in between?
No. Needles must be single use on a single client and properly disposed of in an
