General notes that covers topics in the first section of the International relations paper for GCSE History. This is for OCR. Made these for revising and creating flashcards/mind maps to help memorise information that is not too wordy or difficult to understand. Essentially a more simplified version of the textbook for those who already have an understanding of topics that will come up in the exam.

Successes;
● Aaland Islands dispute 1921 - Finland and Sweden threatened to go to war after
claiming the islands. The league ruled that they should belong to Finland. Sweden
accepted the rulings.
● Bulgaria dispute 1925 - Greek soldiers killed on the border with Bulgaria. In
retaliation Greeks invaded Bulgaria. League demanded both sides stand down and
for Greeks to withdraw from Bulgaria. Greece obeyed and the outcome was a major
success for the league

Failures;
● Vilna dispute 1920-1929 - Poland took over Vilna in Lithuania in 1920. Lithuania
sought help. League told poland to leave but they didn't. No further action taken.
Britain and France more concerned about keeping poland as an ally against
germany.
● Corfu dispute 1923 - August 27th 1923, italian general Tellini and his team were
ambushed and killed. Benito Mussolini blamed the Greek government. He wanted
murderers to be executed. Mussolini attacked Corfu and 15 people died. The League
condemned Mussolini’s actions but suggested that Greece pay compensation to italy.
Mussolini refused to let the matter end and got his way while there was anger within
the league itself.
