History - Conflict and Tension (WW1- 1894-1918)
The German empire was formed in 1871 and lasted till the end of the first world war
in 1918.

What caused the First World War:
Nationalism-
Nationalism is a passion and love for your own country. Germy admired the British
empire and strived to have a vast empire just the Endgland. The leader of germany,
Kaiser Wilham II, began a policy of World Politics or Wel Tpolitks in 1897 to gain
respect amongst the other countries and became more prominent in world politics.
This also helped advance their navy which alarmed the British as it posed as a threat
to their emprie and the large sums of money and tread that acomppanyied it. A
growth of German nationalisum under the Kaiser and Wel Toplitks raised tension. As

the Alergerias conference in 1906. Britain knew Germany was becoming more
menacing and signed an agreement with Russia cementing the Triple Entente.A
second crisis broke out in Moroco in 1911 due to Germany invading Moroco with
military boats trying to take control. France and Britain stood firm and Germany
appeared humiliated.
The Naval Arms Race-
Britain ruled the waters and their navy dominated since the battle of Trafalgar and
kept a close eye on any up and coming powerful navys. Kaiser Wilham wanted to
develop Germany’s navy in oder to gain popularity and recognition amongst the
other countries. This backfired and Britain deemed Germany’s expansion as a threat
and began improving their already powerful navy. HMS Dreadnal was realeased in
1906 and was so advanced it made all other war ships outdated. It had steam turbins
