600-700 word Essay on Using Authentic Materials and the Internet
Please write the essay under the four headings given.
a) The value of using authentic materials in foreign language teaching:
Using authentic materials in foreign language teaching allows u to use real-life examples of
language used in everyday life situations. These authentic materials can be used to add more
interesting content for the students that they are interested in and find fun to read about and
listen to, authentic materials can provide more information on the culture of target language.
Using authentic materials gives a broader range of materials to use for the students to be able to
acquire the target language and there are a wider range of grammar such as tenses, parts of
speech, phrases, complements etc. This will allow the students to learn more about the language
and it is a more memorable experience for them when they are able to grasp and understand the
language through experiencing a bit of the culture through these authentic materials. The students
may give more interest in learning about the everyday language and culture through authentic
texts.
b) Reasons for the selection of this text and the 12 vocabulary items. Rationale for changes to
text, if applicable.
The students in this class are at a stage in life where many of them want to see more of the world
and experience different cultures as well as study abroad. This text is appropriate for any culture or
age at C1-C2 to read. Studying in the UK is quite popular under foreign students from a variety of
different countries. There are also a lot of tourists visiting the UK each year.
These 12 vocabulary items are the items that fall under the C1-C2 level of learning and teaching
English as a foreign language, meaning they do not know these words yet or some have at least
seen some of them in other texts they saw in books or articles. The students will have to learn and
know these words to fully understand the text, it is very good words to learn for travelling and
studying abroad as they will approach these words in other traveling documents, tourist
brochures, apartment contracts, textbooks, etc.
