Rules:

1. Adding -e
We add -e to most words (especially those ending on -d ; -g ; -f)
Refer to the ‘meervoude’ rules.
Eg. Die boom is hoog.  Die hoë boom.
Eg. Die oggend is vroeg. Die vroeë oggend.
Eg. Die water is koud.  Die koue water.
Eg. Die man is moeg.  Die moeë man.

2. Adding -ende
When you would add -ing in English  you add -ende in Afrikaans.
Eg. Die water wat loop.  Die lopende water.

3. Colours
We NEVER add anything to colours.
Eg. Die groen blare. Die blare is groen.

4. Lank & Jonk
When used before the noun  end in -g.
When used after the noun  end in -k.
Eg. Die man is lank.  Die lang man.

Vergroetende Trap:

 Short vowel  Double the last letter and add -er.
 Twin vowels  Drop one vowel and add -er.
 Double vowels  Just add -er.
 Words ending in -g (short vowel)  Add -ter.
 Words ending in -g (long vowel)  Drop -g ; Add -er.
 Words ending in -f (short vowel)  Drop -f ; Add -wwer.
 Words ending in -f (long vowel)  Drop -f ; Add -wer.
 Words ending in -d (long vowel)  Drop -d ; Add -er.
 Words ending in -lik / -ig  Just add -er.

goed beter beste kwaad kwater kwaadste
 If ends on -s Add -ste. baie meer meeste oud ouer oudste
 Do not change original word spelling.
