Answer:

Careers are practiced within a constantly changing context characterized by uncertainty,
instability, and job mobility. These changes have made it imperative for employees to ‘career self-
manage’ or take control of their careers and future. While the employee is responsible for planning
his or her career, the organisation can play an important role in supporting employees to do so.
Career development planning and management is, therefore, a shared responsibility between
organisations and employees, which can enhance the likelihood of a successful career.
Although it is the employee’s decision whether to make a career change or not, the employer
should provide the employee with assistance regarding such decisions. Organisations need to
create the right balance between organisational needs and empowering people to seek their own
destiny and creating essential organisational support mechanisms to maintain and direct people’s
careers. Helping workers plan their careers can lead to a more productive, more satisfied, and more
loyal workforce. The techniques that organisations can use to provide career development support
to their employees:
(1) Postings regarding internal job openings
When a job vacancy opens, the organisation can look to fill it with internal or external people. The
vacancy can be advertised either externally or internally within the organisation’s boundaries by
job posting, or both. Extensive usage of job posting indicates to the employees that the organisation
prefers internal promotion and that may serve as motivation to employees to remain within the
organisation as they can see prospect for growth
