QUESTION 1
1.1 The cause of Nelson’s condition
The cause of Nelson’s condition might be not eating enough proteins or the essential
vitamins and minerals. The factors contributing to Nelson’s condition are those
conditions that interfere with protein absorptions such as cystic fibrosis. Of which it leads
to malnutrition, which it refers to lack of proper nutrition, caused by not having
enough to eat, not eating enough of the right things. From the information given above
Nelson’s family is very poor, they are unable to get healthy food due to unemployed
parents. It is quite obvious that they are not eating healthy as it is indicated that
Nelson’s stomach looks bloated, and his skin looks dray and scaly. He is easily getting
sick and seems to be tired most of the time, and his teeth are decayed.

, Physical health and emotional development
• Nelson is hungry or poorly nourished he may be short tempered and irritable and
unable to concentrate.
• The overprotected, chronically ill may become very demanding.
• Nelson may be tired because he might have had insufficient sleep may overreact
at the slightest provocation.
• Nelson may be ill and get irritable anxious and this could affect adaptation to
school and development of peer relationships.
these emotional responses may have a bigger or smaller impact on Nelson and will influence
his scholastic success. These responses can also result in physical and intellectual symptoms
Physical health and intellectual development
Kids with health problems may be deprived of learning opportunities because their physical
mobility is restricted. For example, Haemophilia (serve bleeding and bruising because of the
inability of the blood to clot normally.) studies have shown that there is a relationship
between motor skills and academic achievement. The child who is thus denied movement
experiences because of his illness or immobility could be hindered in later stage academic
success. The lack of opportunity to use one’s body is particularly detrimental during the first
couple of years of life when the child uses its body to explore everything.
