INTRODUCTION:
When the time came to register for my second semester at UNISA, I didn’t have a great deal of
modules to choose from, since I had 3 compulsory modules left. One being AFL1501. I had a study
buddy last semester and she told me about this online module she had to take, I was so glad that I
didn’t have that module; little did I know that it was the one module I overlooked last semester! So, I
was a bit stressed out. I had no idea how I was going to pass this module, what to expect or where I
would get the time to be online, or how I would do the discussions. But I found that it was actually
very fun and not so hard at all! I enjoyed reading other students’ opinions and I had a lot of fun with
the assignments.
This module opened me up to other cultures.
I want to invite you to take a tour with me: Language through an African lens. I will tell you more
about my language background: one of the 11 official languages, give you a glimpse of my family:
how our family was structured and even invite you to join me at my father’s wedding: I will tell you
more about a traditional Afrikaans wedding ceremony!
Are you ready…?
