QUESTION 1: INVESTIGATIVE REPORT
The purpose of this question is to establish whether you know how to write an
investigative report. This requires you to do the necessary preparatory reading so that
you can answer the question adequately. Work through Unit 3 in the Study Guide and
Learning Unit 3 in the workbook before attempting to answer this question.
Background
You are the Communications Manager at Smart Minds International University. Since
the implementation of the online application and registration for first year and returning
students, the envisaged enrolment in the past two years has been in constant
decrease by 5%. There was no improvement on the enrolment despite the efforts to
grant extension of the application and registration dates for all the students.
Furthermore, you received numerous complaints from students and Student
Representative Council (SRC) members about requests for on-campus registration.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Smart Minds International University,
Professor Farai Mangwiro, has requested you to investigate possible factors leading
to the constant decrease of students’ enrolment in the university. A report, including
recommendations, should be submitted to the CEO by 25 May 2023.
