ASSIGNMENT 3 2023
Due: 25 July 2023
, 1.5 Assessment 3
Question 1
Patterning is ordering according to a specific pattern/rule. We find patterns
everywhere in everyday life, for example in nature, in/on buildings, on dress
material,in the pattern of laying a table, in art and in music.
1.1 In light of the above statement, discuss the importance of patterns and
how it contributes to problem-solving. You should include the following in
your discussions.
Patterns play a crucial role in various aspects of our lives and contribute
significantly to problem-solving. They help us organize and make sense of the
world around us, enabling us to predict and understand the underlying structures
and relationships. Let's delve into the different types of patterns and their
importance in problem-solving, including their role in counting and mathematical
concepts.
Types of Patterns:
a) Sound/Rhythm Patterns: In music, patterns are evident in rhythm, melody, and
chord progressions. For example, a drummer may follow a consistent beat
pattern, while a composer may create melodic motifs that repeat or evolve
throughout a piece.
b) Movement Patterns: Patterns can be observed in the movements of living
beings and objects. Animals often exhibit repetitive movement patterns, such as
the flapping of wings in birds or the walking gait of mammals. In sports, players
rely on patterns of movement, such as passing and positioning, to achieve
strategic goals.
c) Concrete Object Patterns: Many physical objects exhibit patterns in their
arrangement or design. For instance, in architecture, buildings often follow
specific patterns in their layout or decorative elements. Similarly, patterns can be
