1.2 Briefly discuss key planning elements that should be included when
designing a learning programme.
A learning programme is a process for planning, managing and organising
classroom practice for a particular duration or phase. A keyword in the definition of a
learning programme is classroom practice. What we plan in the learning programme
must guide and inform what is done in the classroom - all teaching, learning and
assessment. When planning a learning programme, the team, that is, all teachers in
a phase, should be included in the learning programme design.

The following key planning elements should be included:

 Principles of CAPS that must be Incorporated in all teaching, learning and
assessment
 Time frames for all teaching, learning and assessment
 Aims and assessment criteria across the phase and how they are to be
sequenced
 Core knowledge and concepts that will be used in attaining the learning aims
and assessment criteria
 Contexts/themes within which the teaching, learning and assessment will
occur
