ACTIVITY 5: PROFESSIONAL LETTERS
There are various ways of communicating with parents.
Letter 1
Write a sample letter addressed to the parents of the school where you are doing your teaching
practice. In your letter, communicate the importance of mathematics and share ideas of how the
parents can encourage their children to do various mathematic activities at home. Make sure
your letter is professional. Your letter must include the following elements: the name of the
school, the date, a formal greeting, a heading (i.e., the topic), content (i.e., the body of the letter)
and an ending.
Your letter may not exceed one A4 page.
Letter 2
Write a sample letter addressed to the parents in which you request their assistance with a
class project. You are planning a fun day, which will be held at the school. In your letter, give all
the details of the event, what you intend doing during the fun day and where their child is going
to be involved. Provide a programme for the day, too. Use only one A4 page for the letter and
one A4 page for the programme.

Children experience a number of learning difficulties in Grade 1. Speak to your teacher and
find out what the learners are currently battling with. List Two problems below which are
related to gross motor development. Also indicate what the teacher is doing to assist the child
with the problems regarding support and add the evidence.
Gross motor issues

Difficulty in mastering basic locomotive skills
Provide evidence
During physical education sessions, the teacher observed that the learners who were
struggling with basic locomotive skills improved their abilities after regular practice and

The teacher has arranged for weekly physical education sessions where the learners can
practice and develop basic locomotive skills such as running, jumping and skipping. The

improvement in these areas after participating in the daily balance and coordination activities.
