Politics of Latin America
Imagine that you are a very important analyst for a major corporation seeking to invest in Latin America. Your Chairperson has been hesitant to go ahead with a decision based on what he has read in recent weeks about Latin America. He has requested that you write an analytical report to explain to him how Latin America reached its current state. As a former academic the Chairperson is interested in learning the historical, structural, and cultural factors that contributed to the state of affairs. She needs to learn about the historical legacies, how the region has organized itself politically and economically. Her interest is also to understand the political culture of the region. While her interest is general, she would specifically like for you to tell her about specific country experiences to illustrate your answer. In sum, your task is to write a brief report that will contribute to the Chair’s final decision. Section One Abstract The Latin American region has most of its modern problems rooted in historical, structural, and cultural factors. The region is just like other nations, idolizing their heroes and shunning those on the wrong side. During the pre-Columbus era, there was a lot of discrimination and slavery in these regions, leaving the regions devastated and full of poverty. These conditions created worse evils such as prostitution, rape, and miscegenation, resulting in a population increase in the region. After the pre-Columbus era had passed, colonial masters invaded the Latin American region, justifying their actions as a mission from God, replacing the prevailing structural system with imperial structures.
