• It is responsible for maintenance of
internal environment of the body (viscera)
• The viscera is supplied by the nerves of
the ANS
• ANS works together with hypothalamus, &
centres in brain stem.

– Blood pressure, body temperature, urination,
GIT motility and secretion, breathing, etc
– It also has effects on the eye, heart, skin and
the blood vessels
– ANS has sensory and motor neurons that
connect the CNS (mainly hypothalamus and
medulla oblongata) and the internal organs.
