FOR3701 Assignment 1 Semester 1 2023 Answers, guidelines, workings and references ........................................................... Mahlangu and Mellon marketing company is situated on the second floor of a high-rise office complex in Brooklyn, Pretoria. The office park houses a variety of businesses. To enter the premises, a visitor must go through an access-controlled boom gate, which is manned by a security guard. There is also a surveillance camera at the gate. Each visitor must enter their personal details (e.g., name and telephone number) in the visitors’ register, as well as the registration number of their vehicle and the details of the person being visited/purpose of the visit. On Tuesday, 18 April 2023, at 10:30, Ms Selinah Maboa, personal assistant to Mr Thabo Mahlangu, reports to you that her Apple Notebook has gone missing from her desk drawer. She informs you that she got up from her desk to take a contract into Mr Mahlangu’s office, and when she returned about ten minutes later, she noticed that her desk drawer was partially open. She found this strange, and immediately opened the drawer further and noticed that her Notebook was not in the drawer. She recalls placing the Notebook in her desk drawer when she arrived at work that morning at 08:00 and locking the drawer. The key to the drawer is kept in a small porcelain cup on her desk, which is accessible to anyone entering the office. Ms Maboa shares the office space with two colleagues, Mr Peter Neves, the filing clerk, and Ms Janice Ndoro, the office administrator. Both reports directly to her as their line manager. Ms Maboa reports to you that, during the course of the morning, there were three additional people in her office, namely: Mr Paul Thulani, the office messenger, who came to deliver the mail for the day at approximately 09:00. Mr Andrew Themes, the office cleaner, who was in the office shortly after 08:00 to empty out the wastepaper baskets for the morning. Ms Sandra Mortlock, an auditor, who dropped off a financial report for Mr Mahlangu’s the signature at approximately 09:30. As the Head of Security for the office block, you are aware that this is the sixth Apple Notebook that has gone missing over the past month. All the victims are female, and you suspect that the gender may indicate an ulterior motive of the criminal. Ms Maboa 3 informs you that she suspects that two of her colleagues may be involved in the theft. She tells you that Ms Mortlock and Mr Thulani have been seen by some colleagues flashing new jewellery and expensive clothes.
