NR 543 Week 6 Discussion; Usability
The usability of health information technology (HIT) can make or break the adoption of new systems. Systems that are not considered to be “user-friendly” can cause error, frustration, and wasted time. Usability is a concept that should be addressed during every phase of the system life cycle. Poor usability effects patient safety as well as end-user efficiency. According to Staggers (2019), there are three classic axioms of usability: “an early and central focus on users in the design and development of systems, iterative design of applications, and systematic usability measures of users interacting with systems” (p. 71).
