QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
QUESTION 1
1.1 How would the principal help this teacher to create a vison for his class?
Explain why it is important to learn about this during our studies and as the
practicing teaching during both the theoretical and practical aspects of
teaching studies.
The principal can help the teacher to create vision for his class by making them to
identify the values and beliefs at the centre of his teaching practice. The principal
can help him create a unified set of values and beliefs which will drive the
development of a high-performance learning culture. This vision will help the teacher
to consider what the school communicates and school leaders value, the beliefs at
the school about learning which u underpin practice, the way in which the current
practice helps to achieve what is most valued, and how the new practices will help
him achieve what the school values.
1.2 Do you think that the principal would be able to develop the teacher who is
supposed to be in class with the leaners help this teacher to develop sufficient
competence to handle a class of learners? Substantiate your answer clearly.
No, the principal would not be able to develop the teacher because the teacher was
supposed to do his teaching practice while studying. When the principal hires the
teacher, they assume that the new teacher has already done his/her own teaching
practice at school as required. So, it would be very difficult for the principal to
develop the new teacher as it is not part of her job.
Teaching practice is the most important factor of becoming an educator. It provides
student teachers with the experience needed in the teaching and learning
environment. It was very important for the student teacher to practice teaching in
schools so that he/she will be able to control the leaners. It was also going to help
the student teacher to understand the roles of a teacher and understand the learning
language of the learners.

,QUESTION 2
2.1 Name and describe the factors that may influence the classroom climate.
Using your own practical examples, describe how such factors may be used to
create a positive classroom environment.
Four factors that may influenced the classroom climate are ecology, milieu, social
system, and culture.
Ecology includes the physical aspects of the classroom, space, furniture, and
equipment. A classroom that is big enough for learners to participate all their
activities makes them to have interest in those activities. Posters/pictures on the
classroom walls assist them to get a very clear picture of what the teacher is talking
about. Teachers use those pictures as illustrations so their learners can understand
better. For example, in an art subject, learners are given tasks to go create their own
artworks at home, so they can be used as decoration inside their classrooms, this
motivates learners who might want to study art when the finish school to work harder
in the subject.
Milieu is that part of the classroom that can be described as the “feeling” of the class.
The Milieu is the classroom environment in which students form relationships with
one another. This is a setting in which students are supported along a variety of
developmental paths. It is a learning environment that encompasses various aspects
of classroom organization to reduce the risk of serious classroom disruption and
ensure that all learners are not discouraged by feelings of inadequacy and
incompetency which could lead to a lack of interest in the subjects taught in the
classroom.
Social system is the formal and informal rules that guide interpersonal relationships in
the classroom. Students’ perceptions of how they are encouraged to interact with
and relate to others for example, classmates and the teacher, make up the
classroom social environment, which includes dimensions such as teacher support,
promoting mutual respect, promoting student task-related interaction, and promoting
performance goals. According to recent research, these various aspects of the
classroom social environment are distinct, can be measured quickly and reliably, and
have significant implications for students’ motivation, self-regulated learning,
3
, classroom behavior (both positive and negative), social relationships, and
achievement.
Culture includes the values, beliefs, systems, and norms existing in the classroom.
The goal of classroom culture is to create an environment in which students feel safe
and free to participate. It’s a place where everyone should feel welcome and
included. Students should feel free to express their feelings, and teachers should be
willing to accept them to facilitate learning. The basis for improved learning is having
a friendly and comfortable classroom. Students who do not feel like they belong can
find it difficult to concentrate on their studies. Student who are part of a healthy
classroom culture are more likely to take charge of their own learning.
2.2 Briefly outline common elements of a successful parent-engagement
programme, according to Bauer & Shea (2002:95). Also explain how you would
follow enforce control measures during a parents’ meeting in the era of the
COVID-19 pandemic.
The common elements of a successful parent-engagement programme are:
- They have written policies that address parental involvement
- There is administrative assistance, which includes a resource centre for parents
and a single person who oversees the program.
- To help parents build a sense of responsibility, a partnership approach is used,
which includes cooperative planning, goal -setting, and other tactics.
- The is a two-way communication.
- They include regular evaluation activities at crucial points during the school year
as well as at the end.
I would follow enforce control measure during a parents’ meeting by making sure that
all parents entering the school premises must be wearing a face mask as is
recommended as part of personal protective equipment and as a public health
measure to stop the spread of COVID-19 pandemic. I would also make sure that all
parents and teachers that will be attending the meeting sanitize their hands before
entering the place which the meeting will be held. During the meeting social
distancing will also be prioritized as we do not want to infect each other with COVID-
19. I can also advise parents to help their children with their homework and help them
understand where they get confused as children get fewer lessons from school due to
COVID-19. This will help the children to catch up to they might have missed.
