IDENTIFYING DETAILS OF THE PROJECT Name of the project: Academic Support Programme Organisation the project is linked to: Ikamva Youth Geographic location: Pretoria Name of facilitator: Joy Oliver Duration of the project: 10 Years 1.2. BRIEF PROFILE OF THE COMMUNITY WHERE THE PROJECT IS BASED The community in which the Ikamva Youth is placed is an urban area. The organisation is also located in Cape Town. The area in which the organisation is placed consists of companies that contribute highly to economic activities and employment opportunities, which has led to people moving to the area in order to live closer to employment opportunities. The community consists of clinics and hospital institutions that are mostly private institutions. The community has two public hospitals and one public clinic that attends to the health of the community. The community has access to clean water and basic services. Regardless of the community having resources, the community is categorized with a high number of people who are homeless, staying and surviving in the streets and high crime rate, which has gotten worse due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It also important to note that the community is facing a risk of high levels of poverty, hunger and a risk of becoming homeless.
