- Twee groepen (N rond de 30), respondents randomly assigned

De null hypothese is altijd dat er niets gebeurd.
Ho: Adding a promotion on a website will not increase the intention to purchase from the website
H1: Adding a promotion on a website will increase the intention to purchase at the website

En twee soorten:
- Control variables = kunnen geobserveerd worden, zoals leeftijd, geslacht.
- Confounding variables = ongerelateerd, lasting om te observeren.

Experiment key terminology
- Control group= is geen interventie tussendoor
- Quasi-experiment
Bij gewoon experiment neem je een groep, die verdeel je random in twee groepen.
In de praktijk kan dit vaak niet. Je gebruikt pre-formed groups.
Om alternatieve verklaringen te minimaliseren, zorg je dat de groepen zo veel mogelijk op elkaar
lijken qua achtergrond = matched pair analysis (“similar” individuals in both groups).

- Between-subjects design = meerdere groepen, elke groep heeft andere condities.
- Within-subjects design = dezelfde groep mensen op verschillende momenten/tijd meten.

- Internal validity = mate waarin bevindingen toegeschreven kunnen worden aan interventies, en niet
aan fouten in je onderzoeksdesign. Dus je interventies verklaart waarom er een andere score is op de
afhankelijke variabele.
- External validity = mate waarin je bevindingen te generaliseren zijn naar grote populatie.
Hier zit een trade-off. Al heb je hoge interne validiteit, is je externe validiteit lager.

Classical experiment
Er zijn altijd twee groepen: control en experimental groep. De mensen worden random ingedeeld. Er
wordt in beide groepen een onafhankelijke variabele gemeten, dat is op t=0. Bij experimentele groep
is er daarna een interventie. Dan aan het einde is er een meting van de afhankelijke variabele.
Wat geanalyseerd wordt is of de afhankelijke variabele een verschillende resultaat heeft tussen de
twee groepen. Als er een verschil is, betekent dat dat de interventie effect heeft gehad.
