Assignment and task: 1 Unit 3

Introduction
In this assignment I will be evaluating the effectiveness of using marketing
techniques in marking products in one organisation. The organisation I am going
to be evaluating is Apple.

Market Penetration:
Apple has used this technique to sell more of the existing products to the
existing market. Not only did they just sell the Apple IPhone 6, they also
created an Apple IPhone 6 Plus. This is the same device but a bigger
version. Many people who own Apple phones disliked having a huge
screen and prefer smaller screens, so many of them bought the Apple
IPhone 6 plus. This shows market penetration. Apple also, created the
IPhone 6 in various colours including silver and gold. This enables the
company to sell more of the products because not everyone finds the
colour black eye-catching. Some of the target audiences will prefer dark
colours and others will prefer slightly brighter colours.
This technique is very effective in terms of selling more of the existing
products to the existing markets. An advantage for this technique is that it
makes the target audience think the product is new and when a product is
trending, everyone wants to buy it. It also makes Apple a lot of money as
people who prefer smaller phones would buy the Apple IPhone 6 plus.
Another advantage is that, not everyone likes to have a black coloured
phone as it is too common. So Apple decided to create Apple IPhone 6’s in
colours including silver, gold. Many people would buy multicoloured
phones as it would make them feel very unique as they would have a
bright phone whereas everyone else has a black phone.

A disadvantage for this technique is that creating the same product but
smaller may cost a lot of money. Many people prefer big phones and
others prefer smaller phones. Many people believe that owning a big
screened phone makes you look wealthy and unique. They also believe
that if you have a smaller phone like the Apple IPhone 6 plus, it makes you
lose your uniqueness as it looks like an ordinary cheap phone. Apple
should make their customers do surveys online to see their opinions on
their ideas. They also spend a lot of money on creating different coloured
IPhone 6’s. Many people prefer black and others prefer bright colours.
They didn’t know if the bright coloured iPhones will become successful but
they risked the idea and created bright phones. For this idea, they should
do surveys on the Apple website so they would get feedback and know
what their fans expect from them.

In my opinion, I believe that Apple have used the market penetration
technique well as they sold 10 million IPhone 6’s in the first month when it
was released. This shows that the different methods of selling the same
product to the same market e.g. same IPhone 6 but different colour
succeeded.

Product Development:
This technique is done by developing and improving new products based
on the old ones and selling it to existing markets. Apple did this by
upgrading phones they previously made, e.g. Apple made an IPhone 5c/5s
which they later upgraded and added many new features. The upgrade
was known as the Apple IPhone 6 which shows product development. Also,
they are selling the product in the existing markets the company has.
This technique is very effective as many people rated the Apple IPhone
5c/5s 5 out of 5. Once the audience found out that there was going to be
an iPhone, they already had a positive image of it. In today’s society, if
you do not have a new product e.g. the Apple IPhone 6, you would feel as
if you would lose your status e.g. in school students would feel as if they
would lose their popularity. This shows that the more products Apple
make, the more people buy it and the more money Apple make. A
negative point in the way Apple have used this technique is that it also
costs a lot of money and they also have to spend money to create
different colours which would also cost a lot of money. In order to save
money, they should have just made one special edition IPhone 6 which
would have been very popular for months, or even years.

In my opinion I believe that Apple have used this technique very
effectively as they have sold over 20 million IPhone 6’s since its release.
This shows that the upgrade from the IPhone 5c/5s to the IPhone 6 was
successful.

Market Development:
This technique is used when the company takes the existing products to
new markets. Apple was first made and introduced in South Korea in 1938.
To make the company and brand expand, they brought the product to
other markets. They further then introduced it to the many countries
including the United Kingdom, Germany and the United States of America.
They have successfully established their company in new markets around
the world which makes Apple an international brand. Apple has used this
technique so that they could sell their products to many markets from all
over the world. This technique is very effective as it helps Apple make a
lot of money which would help them achieve their goal in making a profit.
A positive thing about the way Apple have used this technique is that
