, Introduction
The student will be discussing the various community work process and principles
while applying them to a case study. The student will be commenting on the
importance of the application of these processes and principles and how this
influences the success of a project within a community. A look will be taking at the
importance of self-reliance, ownership, responsibility and empowerment within a
community.
Key concepts
Community: A group of people living together or in the same locality or who share
interests or a sense of identity (Yourdictionary.com, 2021)
Community work process: Community work is the method of social work that
consists of the various processes and helping acts of the social worker that is
targeted at the community system. (Weyers and Geyer, 2011)
Community development: Community development is a process where community
members are supported by agencies to identify and take collective action on issues
that are important to them. (Australian Institute of Family Studies, 2017)
Community theories/approaches: Theories allow us to describe, predict, and better
understand something. (Jimenez, Hoffman and Grant, n.d.)
Ethics: Ethics is a system of moral principles. They affect how people make
decisions and lead their lives. (BBC, 2014)
Question 1: The five steps of community work process
The community work process is there to facilitate a practitioner to critically explore
issues and solutions all while providing an evaluation at each step that the student
will be discussing below, the community work process is ongoing with many different
facets.
The student will be discussing the five-step community work process in relation to
the case study provided in (Louw, 2007)
