, Section A: Knowledge-based questions
Question 1
Postmodern literature is different to literature from earlier times. In a short
paragraph of 10 lines, and using your own words, explain what makes it different.
Mention at least three of postmodern literature’s features to support your answer.
(10 marks)
A literary trend known as postmodernism favors play, fragmentation, metafiction, and
intertextuality over definitive meaning. The purposeful appropriation of older styles and
norms is what defines postmodernism. It was conceived out of doubt and mistrust for
logic. It is described as literature produced from the time following World War II till the
present. A society's social and/or political opinions are reflected in postmodern literature
through realistic characters, references to current events, and socioeconomic
messages. It is a genre of literature that frequently thematises both historical and
political themes and is distinguished by the use of metafiction, unreliable narrative, self-

Question 2
In a short paragraph of 10 lines, and using your own words, explain to a class of

setting. The plot can be thought of as the root system from which all the other
components of a story sprout. It defines the tone, identifies the characters and their
struggles, and hints at the theme of the story. The theme is the lesson that the author
drives home with the momentum the story provides, while the storyline, characters, and
setting provide the effect. Whether it's a book or your favorite TV show, every tale has a
storyline, and every plot follows a similar format. Beginning, rising action, climax, falling
action, and resolution are the five major components of a story structure.
Question 3
In a short paragraph of 10 lines, and using your own words, discuss three
possible advantages of using traditional stories in a multicultural classroom.
Then discuss three possible disadvantages of using traditional stories in a
multicultural classroom. (10 marks)
The use of traditional storytelling in a multicultural classroom has the following benefits:
It encourages everyday interaction amongst students, which improves their
communication skills. It enables students to become diversified and share their cultures
with others, which helps them open up. Regardless of their backgrounds, both teachers
and students have the chance to demonstrate empathy for one another. In a
