Unit 19: Developing Teams in Business
M2: Compare the effectiveness of different teams.
Introduction
This assignment focuses on the comparison of two (2) team, which I was involved in.
It analyzes how effective each team was during the process. The use of Belbin’s
Model, Tuckman’s Theory and John Adair’s Model will be applied to further analyze
the efficiency of the group. The two team are:
1. An English Class Team
2. After school Food and Nutrition team.
Brief Description
English Class team- this was a small formal team, which was created within an
English Class to help with the process of a School Based Assessment. It consisted
of four (4) members in which each of the individuals served a different purpose. This
was a short term team which would only last until the completion of the task.
After School Food and Nutrition team- this was a team created within the Food
and Nutrition class to partake in a variety of activities relating to the preparation of
food. It consisted of six (7) members (6 students and 1 teacher) and was a
temporary team which would last until the end of the school year. Within this group,
we would be divided into smaller groups of 2-3 persons when assigned tasks in
which we had to complete.
Leadership Styles and Skills
English Class Team- the team leader was chosen based on a discussion on who
would fit the role best. The leadership style in which she adopted was democratic.
This style was effective within the group because it ensured that everyone within the
group was being heard and understood, which helped us to progress further as a
team for we did not have many conflicts that we could not solve. Different skills were
adopted also in this team. We had great communication skills (respect, clarity, etc.),
problem solving skills (analysis, observation, logical reasoning, etc.) team work skills
