COMPUTER LITERACY FOR TEACHERS is a module about training teachers in using

2. PURPOSE OF AND OUTCOMES FOR THE MODULE
2.1 Purpose


The purpose of this module is to open the modern world of computer and related technologies to
you and to train you to become a computer literate teacher. You will learn: the vocabulary of
computers in terms of hardware, software, processing and networks (including the Internet); the
various applications of computer and related technologies in education; and how to use computer
technology in the classroom to enhance your own teaching and your learners’ learning.

, 2.2 Outcomes
This module is about computer literacy for teachers which are defined as a combination of
three literacies:


 Computer literacy

 Information literacy

 Integration literacy


On completion of this module you should be able to demonstrate and understand:

 computers and their uses;
 how to find, analyse, select and use information
 how to use computer and related technologies in combination with teaching and learning
strategies to enhance learners’ learning.


IMPORTANT NOTE: Refer to pages 3 – 4 of the prescribed textbook for a discussion of the
meaning of these literacies. This definition is the basis of the module and you must know
and understand it for assignment and examination purposes.
No practical work is required. However, if you have access to a computer, it is strongly
recommended that you apply the knowledge and skills taught in this module in practice.
