Investigate the staging of several elements to
determine common success factors

Introduction
For this assignment, I will be talking about 5 successful events which were successful and what
determined their common successful factors.

London 2012 Olympics
The London 2012 was a sporting event that was hosted in London. The London 2012 Olympics was
hosted by London for about 3 times which includes in 1908, 1948 and the recent one which was
2012. There were many reasons behind on why the London 2012 Olympics were a success. The
London 2012 was an exciting event as their mission was to encourage young participants to enjoy
sport and help them develop aspiration in sport, education, and skills in the future. The London
2012 Olympics main aim was to make sure that participants enjoyed the spectaculous experience
and excitement in participating in the London games through experiencing “compelling sport in
existing landmark settings.” One common success factor that led to the London 2012 Olympics
doing well is through their “intensive planning and preparations.” Planning is an important factor
for a successful event because it helps you reach your goals quicker and makes sure that you are
organised in meeting your vision. The London 2012 Olympics were prepared by teams who had the
motivation and formed a good leadership team where they worked together and came up with
plans/strategies which were tested and reviewed. By doing so, it will help attract audiences to come
to the London 2012 Olympics because the leadership made sure that their strategies were effective
and clear. In addition, as London was one of the first cities in the UK to host the Olympics, they made
sure they looked at and reviewed past Olympic games through their “IOC’s transfer of knowledge
programs”. This will enable them to get an idea of how to organise an effective event and what
implications they need to make sure they avoid.

The government and transport organisations made sure they planned the transport system for the
spectators and athletes who were going to attend the games. In addition, a TDM programme was
developed where travellers avoided peak times and it helped reduced the burden on services.
Another common success factor that led the London 2012 Olympics to do well is teamwork and
leadership. This is because stakeholders in key areas which includes the IOC, London mayors, Prime
minister, Olympic ministers, and the chairman of the London Olympics also came to help. These
people contributed but especially Sebastian Coe who brought in people for key challenges of the
event and understand the hardest operations which was involved in guiding the key decisions.
Therefore, by stakeholders working together and bringing new people into the event will contribute
to good leadership and teamwork skills because they are working together to make sure the event
goes well.

The final thing that led the event to be successful is the risk assessment they planned before the
event and checked for the health and safety measures. This is an important factor because the
London Olympics had over 70,000 jobs available for a various number of things and many of the staff
carried out risk assessments to make sure the event was suitable and appropriate for athletes and
participants to come. In addition, this helped made the event safer and together with the staff they
made sure this was possible. Another factor that leads to the success of the London 2012 Olympics
was that over 700,000 fans attended the event. This was a success factor because this tells you that
