, Question 1
1.1. Discuss how ICT integration can transform teaching and learning in the
context of South Africa
1. Integrating technology in teaching enhances collaboration. The learner is
actively involved in the lesson, and they are able to participate in online
activities.
2. Technology has a very positive impact on the relationship between teachers
and learners.
3. Technology keeps the lesson interesting, and it keeps the attention of the
learners in the classroom. Most learners grow up with the new technology. It
is a very active way to keep them engaged in the classroom and to interact
with the lesson.
4. There are no limits regarding technology. It gives learners access to search
and get information outside their textbooks and a bigger world.
5. Technology improves teaching. Teachers can use different online resources
to help learners to understand their schoolwork better.
6. It helps to develop the learner’s computer skills.
7. It helps to address different ways of learning and teaching.
1.2. Explain FIVE (5) challenges that hindered the successful implementation
of ICT in Gauteng Schools.
1. There is resistance to change. Older teachers prefer the old way of teaching
styles. They do not want to adapt and integrate new teaching methods.
2. Lack of hardware and no guidance to use computers and technology. Some
teachers have never received training to use computers and to integrate
technology in the classroom. Some school does not have the funds to
provide computers, hardware, and software for classrooms.
3. Some people have a big fear to use technology. Most younger learners grow
up with technology, but older teachers did not use computers and technology
everyday which makes it hard for teachers to use technology in the
classroom.
4. There is a lack of technological support. Some schools do not have facilities
like an IT department and when problems occur with printers and computers it
is hard to fix it.
5. Lack of time to incorporate technology in the classroom. Some teachers
make use of Power Point presentations when presenting lessons. This can
be very time consuming to prepare lessons and some teachers have to much
extramural activities.
