information in your study material. You therefore need to deliver well-structured and well-
presented arguments and solutions. Be wary of making statements without substantiating
and motivating them. It is essential to provide practical examples of the application of theory
in the public sector. Please note that you are not allowed to copy content from sources
verbatim as this would constitute plagiarism, which is a disciplinary offense. You therefore
have to re-write the content in your own words. You may use extra information sources. Note
that Wikipedia, Facebook and YouTube are not academic sources.
You must not communicate with fellow students during the examination. No group work
will be accepted, and cases of misconduct will be referred to the relevant Academic Integrity
Sub-committee for investigation. Your marks will be affected negatively should

Postmodernism supports the idea that social realities are dynamic and
constantly reforming in response to environmental stimuli. South Africa’s
rainbow nation bears testament to a functional multicultural society in the
postmodern era. Within multicultural societies, there are often some people who
do not abide by the laws and regulations of the society. Consequently, the
government needs to provide protection services due to a wide range of events,
circumstances and factors.
Against this background, write a concise essay of roughly 8 to 10 pages, making
use of study material and additional online resources, in which you critically
analyse the main events in the postmodern era that necessitate protection
services.

damage. It seriously disrupts the functioning of our communities and society

2.1 Write detailed explanatory notes on the different categories of disasters. (25)
2.2 Analyse at least five (5) strategies for effective disaster management. (25)
