For every single subject that schools offer, the government has certain requirements
that need to be fulfilled during that school year. This is where teachers will require an
ATP. An ATP stands for Annual Teaching Plan. The Annual Teaching Plan for Life
Skills provides the educators with certain goals and information they need for the
school year. The purpose of these documents is that it gives you a detailed guideline
of what exactly needs to be covered in Life Skills. By having a proper lesson and
year plan, the educator is more likely to achieve what needs to be done in
comparison to have nothing at all. It is essential for teachers to have this document
for Life Skills as it provides them with the support and the advice, they need for what
to cover for certain topics of life skills. This document also gives the direction of
activities, topics and assessments that need to be covered for that year. (Provides
an opportunity to see the entire direction of the teaching year by setting goals,
budgeting, performance indicators, as well as a set of principles to help instructors in
exercising their professional judgment in the best interests of their students in their
context.

Objectives of the lesson:
- Positive self-esteem -> Body image (accepting their body image and the
various changes that come with age. Things that influence any individuals
body images such as society and body image in terms of the textbook
content
- Self-awareness & what it means.
- Problem solving techniques in conflict situations- bullying (MOTSHEKGA,
2011).
Knowledge of learners as is:
- Changes in their body as is.
- Noticing how social media portrays the “perfect body” by editing their skin
and texture.
- Having to defend their body during bullying. Perhaps if a learner states
another learner is fat, they defend themselves.
Resources used during the lesson:
- Life Skills textbook
- Magazine
- YouTube
- Any social media that portrays the “perfect body” - Instagram
Method:
Start by having a discussion about body image and what I as the
educator thinks as well as the students think of it.
Give the learners an activity where they design a perfect body versus a
non-perfect body image using different magazines.
Teach the students what needs to be learnt in terms of the textbook
expectation. (Definitions and application of various activities needed.)
Show them a YouTube video based on the body image and conflict.
Teaching them how to care and love themselves and for who they are.
