INFLUENCES OF ART MOVEMENTS OR THE ENVIROMENT:
Phemba’s work is often seen similar to REALISM
because of how it portrays the poor and terrible
conditions of black township people during the
apartheid.
He also mimics IMPRESSIONISM with his strong
light source and by depicting a fleeting scene in
time.
The influence of EXPRESSIONISM can be seen in
his use of subjective colour.
USE OF MEDIA AND TECHNIQUES:
The work is oil on board. And the brushstrokes are
visible but not defined.

LINE- the diagonal lines formed by the ceiling of
the bus create perspective and also a sense of
claustrophobic space.
