Describe some of the purposes for which individuals, groups, and organizations
are assessed in the industry.
Individuals in the workplace are assessed for various reasons. The goals of individual
assessment are to assess:
individual differences for selection and employment purposes
inter- and intra-individual differences for placement, training, and development as
well as for compensation and reward purposes.
Group Assessment are assessments that are administrated to a group. They are often
utilized for
recruitment; educational and uniform administration.
To assess cognitive ability and skills that are relevant to a specific job role for a
large group.
Allows inter and intra-group comparisons
Assessment of organizations is also largely used for diagnostic and development
purposes and are also not classified as psychological measures. The results obtained
from organisational assessments are used for interorganisational comparisons or even
intraorganisational comparisons.
Although organisations are the targets for assessment in this instance, the assessment
data are still obtained at an individual level. In other words, subjective individual
assessments are collated to describe an organisational process, characteristic or
structure. Measures used to assess organisational processes, characteristics, and
structures also have to be based on sound psychometric principles in order to be
reliable and valid.
