NURS-FPX4010 Interview and Interdisciplinary Issue Identification Assessment 2 2021/2022. Angel is the nurse manager over Mercy Hospital NWA free standing Emergency Departments. She has been a nurse for 20 years, 13 of those as an ER nurse and charge nurse and the last 7 in a management position. As a nurse manager Angel’s duties include but are not limited to; supervising, organizing, and overseeing nursing personnel with direct patient care. Angel also is responsible for making the staff schedule, coordinating and leading staff meetings, and handling the department’s budget. A current issue this department is encountering is wait times in triage as well as the work flow within the rest of the department. As the emergency department often is the world of chaos can be challenging at times to know how many nurses to staff the department with; including each section of the department such as triage. As far as the work flow in relation to wait times there has been issues with lab delays and physician delays, as well as physician order delays that prolong the workflow. This leads to patient wait times, total visit times, and the number of patients in the ER at one time increase. Once a month, the department heads, charge nurses, and the head of the ER doctors meet to discuss any current issues, and possible resolutions to fix said issues. The department agreed upon changing the nurses shifts around, as well as the doctors shifts. In the ER you have day shift, mid shift, and night shift. While day and night shift hours were to stay the same, mid shift hours were going to change from two 10:00 am nurses to one 10:00 am and one 11:00 am. As well as one of the noon nurses would now come in at 1:00pm and one of the 2:00 pm nurses would change to 4:00 pm. The department also agreed to add another mid-level provider from 4pm-4am whether that be a physician assistant or a nurse practitioner. Charge nurses then voiced their concerns with physicians delay in putting in orders, emphasizing the need for physicians to cluster their orders in the charting system to able to nurses to complete tasks more efficiently. These changes were unanimously agreed upon, and one extra meeting a month was added to collaborate on productivity and to discuss adjustments as needed. Issue Identification
