Syllabus Type:
Topic based - The student will focus on activities that are based on their interest, such as listening to an
authentic piece on Covid-19 (current affairs) and having a casual conversation on various topics that are
common. Topic-based syllabus are usually associated with vocabulary and in this lesson, I have chosen to
focus on verbs used in the workplace.
Skill based - The student will focus on activities where writing, speaking, and listening is important: such as
going for a job interview, applying for a job, and pronouncing words correctly that are mostly used in the
workplace.

Student would have improved his business spoken English, words that are usually used in the workplace,
and he will sound more professional when going for a job interview.
He will be able to listen better and understand speech in audio through various listening activities and he
will learn how to pick up certain information from listening pieces.
He will have better casual conversations with his friends and he will have better communication skills for
traveling.

I have decided to use a multi-syllabus lesson as I feel it will suit Alberto's needs the best. Alberto stated that
he wants to improve his English to help him find work, he also stated that he wants to learn through using
authentic materials. He enjoys the topics of environment, current affairs, science, and technology. He also
wants to develop his conversational English to help him to communicate with friends and allow him to
travel with confidence.
Why you have chosen this syllabus type?
The student indicated that he has a preference for certain topics like current affairs and the environment
and he also would like to learn technical vocabulary. The student also identified that he would like to
improve his speaking and listening. Therefore, I have chosen a multi-syllabus then the student can learn
through a skilled-and topic-based syllabus. A multi-syllabus is also more flexible which makes it easier for
me to meet the student's requirements. The multi-syllabus will also make it easier for me to adjust my
syllabus in response to the needs of the student as the lesson progress.
Why you have chosen the topics covered?
Alberto's main reason for learning English is to enhance his job prospects. Through listening to the interview
and reading the needs analysis questionnaire I gathered that Alberto has many topics of interest. Thus, have
I decided to incorporate topics that interest the student. For the first 5 lessons I have chosen you focus on
current affairs, music, the environment, movies, and work-related topics. This is because Alberto mentioned
that he enjoys watching movies and socializing with his friends and he would like to improve his
conversational skills. With the different topics Alberto will stay interested and it will give him a good
foundation of knowledge, vocabulary, and confidence to participate in conversations.

- Student has expressed that his speaking and listening needs to be improved along with his vocabulary
skills, therefore, vocabulary, speaking and listening will be the primary skills on which this syllabus will be
based on.
- Better vocabulary will strengthen Alberto's listening and speaking skills, so he will be better able to use

- I will evaluate his grammar, listening and writing skills as we work through the lessons. I will then include
