LECTURE 2
, RECAP (CH6)
• The five basic research strategies are the descriptive,
correlational, experimental, quasi-experimental, and non-
experimental strategies.
• Once a researcher decides on a research strategy, the next step i
determine the research design.
• Central to selecting a research strategy and design is validity, w
is concerned with the accuracy of research results.
• Threats to validity are any factors that raise doubts about the
results of the study or their interpretation.
,• Research has internal validity if it produces a single, unambiguo
explanation for a relationship between variables.
• Research has external validity if its results can be generalized t
other people, settings, times and measures.
• Threats to internal validity include: extraneous variables and
confounding variables.
• Threats to external validity include: participants, features of the
study and measurements.
• Threats to both internal and external validity include: artifacts.
