THE COURSE PLAN

Name of the Teacher Name of the Student Level of the
student
Aarifah Alberto Mozo Minguez B1-
Intermediate
Syllabus Type:
Multi-Syllabus

Course Aims:
By the end of the course, the student will be better able to understand English and
engage in conversation, with improved abilities in listening, speaking and pronunciation.
He will be able to speak fluently and more accurately in both his work place and when
mingling in his social environments. He will have increased listening abilities by making
use of the sub-skills listening for gist and listening for specific information.

Course Rationale: (700 – 1000 words)

Here you need to include:

• why you have chosen this syllabus type
I have chosen to create a multi-syllabus for Alberto because he requires a course that
emphasises and focuses on both listening and speaking skills. Therefore, a multi-syllabus
is ideal for him, as it is based on a variety of topics, structures, vocabulary items and skills
practice. Given the fact that he has had eight years of coursebook-based grammar lessons
and he feels that he has not progressed much since then, I chose to minimalize my
grammar-based lessons.

interview, it seems that Alberto experiences difficulty with listening for gist and eliciting
key information. He also lacks confidence when responding, as he is mindful of his
Spanish accent and fears that his pronunciation is incorrect. He has good reading and
writing abilities but there is always potential for improvement and further development,
therefore I have chosen to give him some reading and writing tasks in the first five hours
to evaluate his abilities so that I can modify the syllabus if necessary.

• why you have chosen the topic(s) covered
After reading the questionnaire answers and watching the interview video, I discovered
that Alberto’s interests are diverse and can actually be used to his advantage, as I am now
able to create for him interesting learning materials. Since he enjoys films, football and
travel I decided to use these topics in the beginning of the skills lessons, as I feel that it is
