Aims of the lesson We are learning to identify and introduce 6 different members of the family and
friends namely (mother, father, grandma, grandpa, brother and sister) .
Secondary aims of the lesson To enable students to understand and use family and friends vocabulary.
To become more confident in speaking targeted vocabulary in English,
Anticipated difficulties Students may be unfamiliar with the new language as they only started English
classes 4 weeks ago so have only had 4 hours tuition so far. Students may also not
be familiar with the English alphabet or be able to read in their first language. The
class can also be very lively and students can prefer (get distracted) by playing
rather than studying. Since the lesson is first thing in the morning and at the
weekend – students for example may be sleepy.

, Strategies to overcome difficulties If students find the activity too easy/boring then I can add additional language or
alter activities (for example use other objects such as photographs) to main
interest. Can also include filler activities in the lesson which are outlined below.
The lesson warmer will comprise of an energetic task and throughout the lesson
ensure that fun activities are included to keep students motivated. Include a
diversity of activities in the lesson that focus on speaking English as well as other
more creative tasks as opposed to more reading and writing based tasks.
Materials to be used Whiteboard, whiteboard pens, flashcards of family members, cards (written +
image for the pairs activity), coloured/writing pencils, paper, odd-one out
worksheets, bingo cards.
