Main topic:
- De minimumleeftijd van het kopen van alcohol en tabak
Subtopic:
- Nadelen van een lagere leeftijdsgrens
- Voordelen van een hogere leeftijdsgrens
- Nadelen van een hogere leeftijdsgrens
Slide 1:
I work in a supermarket, where I see so many young adults buying alcohol,
cigarettes or tobacco every day. It feels illegal, but it's legal anyway.
Personally, I think it's so unhealthy to start drinking or smoking when you
turn 18, very strange that the age limit was 16 before January 1, 2014.
Slide 2:
To introduce myself, I'm - and I come from class - HBO law. I will do my
best in this presentation and make sure that my intention will be clearly
expressed. To make that happen I’m going to introduce 3 subtopics and
explain each of them by giving explanations, examples and conclusions.
Slide 3:
Like I said, I want to make my intention clear. And my point is that the
legal age to buy alcohol, cigarettes or tobacco must be above 18 years,
maybe even 21 years old. As I go through the presentation it will become
clear why I take this position in the first place.
Slide 4:
My first reason is to clarify the disadvantages of having a lower age limit, I
would like to discuss them to get a much better idea of what alcohol or
some forms of tobacco can do to your mental and physical health. I will
make them clear by explaining them and giving examples.
Slide 5:
Firstly, alcohol or any kind of tobacco can cause tremendous damage to
your mental and physical health. In 2011, there were 762 cases of binge
drinking among young adults in the Netherlands. By contrast, in 2012,
11% of children between the ages of 10 and 19 smoked cigarettes. That's
absolutely horrifying, extremely mind-blowing, and entirely important.
Slide 6:
The examples of your declining health can lead to alcohol poisoning or a
coma. In addition, smoking can cause long-term damage to your brain,
you can even get cancer, lung diseases or heart and vascular diseases. All
these occurring problems can shorten your lifespan.
