QUESTION 2: CORPORATE-LEVEL STRATEGIES AT CLICKS GROUP AND SORBET 2.1 Introduction Corporate-level strategy concerns the overall purpose and scope of an organisation and addresses how value can be added across all business levels (Louw & Venter, 2024:19). The Clicks Group's acquisition of Sorbet in 2023 for R105 million represents a significant corporate-level strategic move that demonstrates multiple growth strategies. Four distinct growth strategies and their specific forms are evident in this case study. 2.2 Related Diversification The primary corporate-level strategy evident in the Clicks Group's acquisition of Sorbet is related diversification. Related diversification occurs when an organisation seeks new opportunities in linked industries where the new business relates to the existing one (Louw & Venter, 2024:337). The Clicks Group's acquisition of Sorbet represents a classic example of related diversification because the beauty salon business complements Clicks' existing health, beauty and wellness offering (Clicks, 2026). As Clicks CEO Bertina Engelbrecht stated, Sorbet "complements the Clicks' proven health and beauty strategy" and the group aims to "capitalise on opportunities to expand the business together with Sorbet's strong and entrepreneurial management team" (Businesstech, 2023). This strategic move allows Clicks to extend its presence in the beauty category, which is already a core part of its business through the sale of beauty products in its stores. The acquisition adds over 190 salons to the existing 850 stores within the Clicks Group, thereby enhancing the group's positioning as a beauty destination for higher LSM customers (Clicks, 2026; Clicks IAR, 2023).
