Reflective Essay on Assignment 2
Assignment 2 was designed to develop my ability to integrate Information and
Communication Technology (ICT) into classroom teaching while strengthening my
digital literacy and professional teaching skills. The assignment required me to create a
WIX digital teaching portfolio that showcased lesson plans, ICT-integrated learning
activities, educational resources, reflections, and videos. The portfolio demonstrated
how technology can be be used to improve learner engagement and support effective
teaching. In completing the assignment, I designed two lesson plans for Grade 7
Natural Sciences and Grade 6 Mathematics, developed learning activities using digital
tools, reflected on my teaching practice, and produced a lesson reflection video based
on the SAMR model and Bloom's Taxonomy.
One of the most valuable learning experiences was gaining a deeper understanding of
how ICT enhances teaching and learning. Before completing the assignment, I
understood that technology could support education but had limited experience in
planning lessons that intentionally incorporated digital tools. Designing the WIX portfolio
helped me appreciate the importance of organising digital teaching resources
professionally and presenting information in a way that is easy for learners, colleagues,
and parents to access.
Creating the Grade 7 Natural Sciences lesson on photosynthesis helped me understand
how multimedia resources can simplify complex scientific concepts. By incorporating a
YouTube video during the introduction, learners could visualise how plants produce
food before formal explanations were provided. Using Microsoft PowerPoint together
with interactive diagrams enabled learners to analyse each stage of photosynthesis
more effectively. The Kahoot quiz provided an engaging method of assessing learner
