1.1.1 Referring to Diagram A, explain how you would teach the concept "the sum
of the angles of a triangle is 180°" first through deductive reasoning and then
through inductive reasoning. (5)
Deductive reasoning approach
Deductive reasoning begins with a known mathematical theorem and applies it to a
specific case. Using Diagram A (an equilateral triangle), I would first explain that one
of the fundamental properties of triangles is that the sum of the interior angles of
every triangle is 180°.
Learners are shown that Diagram A is an equilateral triangle, meaning:
All three sides are equal (labelled a).
All three interior angles are equal.
