As mentioned in the previous written assignment, I own my own Notes business
where I sell Notes to High school children to make money. This business only started
to make myself pocket money whilst I was in high school, but 5 years later, it
became a proper business. One of the biggest career hurdles I struggle with whilst
trying to grow my business is the fact that I am an extreme control freak. I would say
that that falls under the trait-like hurdles, it causes that I have low trust in other
people and that sometimes causes my business to grow slower than it’s supposed
to. This trait has caused me to not hire more people in my business because it feels
as though I won’t have complete control over them and the quality of work they
produce, so then I feel that I would have to redo the work myself. This trait is
completely frustrating for me because I know that my business has so much
potential and it can grow so much if I would just trust others but because I don’t, my
business is growing much slower than it should.
My business is run fully online, and all orders can be placed via my website. All
orders are then sent via email to the customer. This allows me to work from the
comfort of my home, I live on a farm that is very isolated from the outside world and
only go into town when absolutely necessary. This causes that my business and
career has a social network hurdle. I don’t have a lot of social capital because I don’t
come in contact with a lot of people, this causes that I have a disadvantage when it
comes to learning new job opportunities and getting investors for my business. I
need to do everything by myself because I don’t have the relationships with other
people to get them to trust in my business. It becomes very hard because I know that
this trait is slowing the growth of my business tremendously.
