Environmental ethics and philosophy
These lecture notes cover the foundational theories and debates in environmental: 1. Core concepts and branches: What “environmental ethics” means, key terms like anthropocentrism vs ecocentrism vs biocentrism, and the main branches - land ethics, deep ecology, ecofeminism, animal rights. 2. Key philosophers + their views: Major thinkers in the field and their arguments. E.g. Aldo Leopold’s “Land Ethic”, Peter Singer on animal rights/speciesism, Arne Naess on deep ecology. 3.Real-world ethical dilemmas we apply the theories to. Things like climate change responsibility, pollution + justice, biodiversity loss, sustainable development, human vs non-human rights, and intergenerational ethics.
