1.1 Suitable Research Approach

Mixed methods research is characterised by the use of both numerical and non-numerical

breadth and depth in addressing research questions (Bryman, 2016). This approach enables

researchers to measure trends and patterns while also exploring participants' experiences,

perceptions, and meanings associated with the phenomenon under investigation (Johnson,

Onwuegbuzie & Turner, 2007).


In the context of the scenario, the quantitative component could involve administering

questionnaires to Honours students to determine their level of awareness and frequency of

use of the online library services offered by Tsimuku University. The qualitative component

could involve conducting interviews or focus group discussions with selected students to

explore their experiences, perceptions, and challenges regarding the use of online research

support, online consultation services, and LibGuides. By combining these methods, the

librarians would obtain a more holistic understanding of Honours students' awareness, use,

and experiences of the services provided during the transition to online learning.


2.1 Most Suitable Paradigm


The most suitable paradigm aligned with the mixed methods research approach is the
