, 1. INTRODUCTION

This assignment is based on a case study focusing on the challenge of non-adherence
to HIV treatment among children and adolescents in South Africa, primarily due to their
lack of knowledge about their HIV status. As the social worker tasked with supporting
their parents and caregivers, this document will outline the foundational steps for
planning a group intervention. The first section will address the pre-planning
considerations of recruitment, group type, structure, and member selection. The second
and most substantial section will present a formal group work proposal, detailing the
purpose, rationale, recruitment, and orientation plan for a support and psycho-
educational group for caregivers.

2. QUESTION 1

1.1. Describe the recruitment method that you would use to recruit members.

The primary recruitment method I would use is contacting potential members directly
through existing caseloads and professional referrals within the clinic where I am
employed (Toseland & Rivas, 2017:185). This involves identifying parents and
caregivers of HIV-positive children from the clinic’s patient database, in collaboration
with doctors and nurses, and contacting them via phone calls to explain the proposed
support group and invite them for an individual screening interview. This method is
effective because it targets the exact population in need within the organisation’s
existing service framework.

1.2. Do you think the above group will be a task group? Motivate your answer.
