, 2.1 Student invented strategies are methods learners make or create for themselves whereas a
standard algorithm is a step by step method.
2.2 We can use match sticks which are Ones and 10 sticks would represent Tens. We can also use
building blocks and stack 10 building blocks that’ll also represent the Tens
2.3 Repeated addition
6x3 3x6

+6 +3

2.4 I would highlight more on place value in the classroom, most learners get so confused when
given large numbers because they are used to Hundreds, tens and units only that’s why I’d
make use of the place value table to break it down for them that 3 is in the Hundreds block
so that means that the place value of 3 is Hundred.

2.5.1
The remaining distance
¼ 1/3 2/4 2/3 ¾ 4/4
Travelled Still to travel 24KM
1/3 to ¼ = 1/12 therefore the total distance is 24KM X 12 = 288KM and the ¾ remaining to be travelled 288 x ¾ =
216KM
2.5.2 They should have background information or understanding of concepts such as factors,
multiples, working on the number line and equivalent fractions. In other words here are the
concepts: Factors are what we can multiply to get the number. Multiples are what we get after
