RE: Joelene Busy (female, age 10) – Best interests of the child pending divorce proceedings

Introduction
I am a registered social worker practising in Comsvalley, Gauteng. I was requested by Adv AJ Botha,
Family Advocate, to compile a report concerning the minor children of the Busy family following an
incident of domestic violence on 20 September 2026 and subsequent divorce proceedings initiated by
Ms A Busy. This report focuses on Joelene Busy (age 10).

Source of information
 Direct observations by the social worker before, during, and after the incident of 20 September
2026.
 Attempted interviews with Joelene Busy (child unresponsive, refused to speak).
 Observation of family interactions and home environment.
 Police report (referred to but not attached).
 No prior professional involvement with the family known to this social worker.

Background – living circumstances
Joelene Busy resides at 79 Boom Street, Comsvalley, Gauteng, a rural community. The household
comprises Ms A Busy (mother, reportedly frequent alcohol misuse), Mr B Busy (father, factory
worker and mechanic, seldom home), Joe Busy (brother, 16, substance user, school dropout), and Ms
C Busy (paternal grandmother, elderly, frail, lives separately in a Wendy house at the back).

Neighbourhood observations prior to the incident:
 Mother seen intoxicated in street.
 Unusual number of men visiting the house during the day.
 No smell of home cooking; frequent takeaway deliveries.
 Joelene observed as quiet, big eyes, clings to doll, smaller than peers, appears fearful when
mother looks at her.
