PORTFOLIO SECTION A
Goal 1: Achieve Universal Primary and Secondary Education
Target 1: We need an educated South African society and we need to strive to
attain this by 2018.
Most harm is done due to unawareness hence Education provides a
leverage for the other MDG’s as if people are aware of the countries
conditions.
I loved what East Coast Radio (Durban) did On Mandela day,
sponsoring the secondary education to 67 children (67 minutes of
giving back).

Target 2: businesses to aid to do the above in the next year or two. Every
company has their social responsibility in the area of operation.
Goal 2: Reduce Child Mortality
Target 3: We need to continue improving sanitation and basic living conditions.
We need to strive to attain better results by 2017.
Goal 3: Improve Maternal Heath
Target 4: Government needs to allocate funds to provide basic family planning,
maternal and neonatal health care to women by 2018.
Target 5: Non-profit organisations should have programs on educating the
public and gaining access to emergency obstetric care for mothers.
Goal 4: Combat HIV/AIDS and Other Diseases
Target 6: Promoting safer sexual behaviour, sexual education and providing
treatment for HIV prevention
Target 7: Promoting use of long-lasting, insecticide-treated nets to combat
malaria
Increasing access to efficacious anti-malaria medicines
Target 8: Improving housing conditions, TB screening of HIV-positive persons,
and Directly Observed Treatment Short Course therapy for TB.
Goal 5: Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger
Target 9: Government should provide jobs to the unemployed, increase the
minimum wage for employees, provide access to basic social services
and promoting agriculture.
Goal 6: Creating Jobs and reducing unemployment
Target 10: Government should use expansionary fiscal policy to create jobs. We
need to give more South Africans the education and skills they need
to get a job.
, Target 11: Refocus from BEE to Entrepreneurship development as government
policy for redressing South Africa’s inequality
Goal 7: Ensure Environmental and Economic Sustainability
Target 12: Conserve our scarce Natural Resources.
http://thewaterproject.org/water-crisis/water-in-crisis-south-africa )
Develop a sustainable economic model that ensures fair distribution
and efficient allocation of our resources.
We need to focus on sustainable agriculture and fishing, reducing
deforestation, recycling and better waste management by 2019.
Target 13: Our country needs to maintain a healthy balance with our ecosystem
(unhealthy ecosystem: - Global Warming, Rhino Poaching, Droughts
and Natural Disasters recently). Businesses and individuals need to
reduce their environmental exploitation and negligence by up to 50%
and more in 2020.
Goal 8: Develop a Global Partnership for Development
Target 14: To foster global links, at times between the public and private sector,
driving more and better developments covering water, sanitation,
healthcare, education, trade, agriculture and technologies.
According to the feedback I received from the discussion, uplifting the citizens of SA is of
higher importance when compared to the environment and global partnership hence the
reason for my restructured answerers.
Provided that people have basic living conditions happiness cannot be compared to
increased economic wealth. People living in poverty would benefit from increased wealth as
it will provide improved living conditions hence increasing their “Happiness”.
