Reading is an important skill that helps us to communicate well and to perform
better in school. It is not just about looking at words on a page but it is a way to think
deeply about the information we receive. This essay is going to explain how reading
helps us in our daily lives and why reading stories is so important for developing our
mind.
In our everyday lives, reading helps us move through the world. We use it to read
street signs, shop names and labels. This helps us understand our immediate
surroundings (TUT501, 2020: 8). However, "reading" is defined as more than just
decoding letters; it is a process of making meaning from a text (Leland et al., 2018).
There is a big difference between simply recognizing a word and "critical reading."
