Learning mediator
A learning mediator is a teacher who helps learners understand knowledge in ways that suit
their abilities and needs. The teacher explains concepts clearly, creates a supportive
learning environment and encourages learners to participate actively in learning. The
teacher must also respect diversity among learners and use different teaching strategies to
ensure that all learners understand the content.
Ms Diphego fulfils this role by making mathematics practical and enjoyable for her learners.
Her colleagues explain that she makes mathematics fun and helps learners understand
difficult concepts. By explaining mathematical ideas in ways that learners find interesting and
meaningful, she helps them develop confidence and a positive attitude towards the subject.
