QUESTION 1
Draft security procedures that should be followed at Computer Data Systems
(CDS) for the protection of employees and property/assets (computers and
trucks) in order to address security risk problems therein. (20)
1. Introduction
Computer Data Systems (CDS) is experiencing a severe security crisis characterised by
repeated hijackings of delivery trucks, loss of high-value assets, and serious injuries to
employees. The absence of formal security measures, tracking systems, and security
policies has significantly increased the company’s exposure to risk. Security procedures
are therefore required to systematically prevent, reduce, and manage threats to
employees and company assets. Security procedures provide standardised actions that
guide behaviour, enhance control, and ensure consistency in risk mitigation (Hicks &
Frenz, 2017). The procedures below are drafted to address CDS’s specific operational
vulnerabilities and high-risk transport environment.
2. Pre-Trip Security Procedures
Before any delivery truck departs, strict pre-trip security procedures must be
implemented to reduce exposure to criminal threats.
Firstly, route risk assessment procedures must be conducted. All delivery routes
should be analysed to identify high-crime areas, hijacking hotspots, time-based risks,
and alternative safer routes. Routes with known hijacking patterns must be avoided
where possible, and delivery times should be adjusted to daylight hours to reduce
vulnerability (Brooks, 2015).
Secondly, vehicle inspection procedures must be mandatory. Drivers must complete
a checklist confirming that the truck is mechanically sound, communication devices are
functional, and security features such as immobilisers and panic buttons are
