ASSIGNMENT 3
DUE DATE: JUNE 2026

, HED2601 ASSIGNMENT 3 2026

QUESTION 1

1.1 Identify THREE (3) significant changes brought by the Industrial

Revolution in the economic and social life of people in Europe.

Shift from hand production to machine production
Work that was previously done by hand in homes and small workshops moved to
factories where machines were used. This increased production and changed the
way goods were manufactured.

Urbanisation and migration to cities
Many people moved from rural areas to towns and cities to find work in factories. This
led to the rapid growth of industrial cities and overcrowded living conditions.

Increase in child labour and family separation
The demand for cheap labour resulted in women and young children working long
hours in factories. Families were often separated, and many children were neglected
or placed in orphanages. This later created the need for organised childcare and
early childhood education systems.

1.2.1 Two examples of parental ethno-theories from my community (±180 words)
